Logo and visual system for the New Haven Symphony’s Black American Music program used in schools across CT. I researched black owned non-profits and arts organizations, and the meanings behind the colors and visual elements they used to come up with the final design. I used the shape of a record, which fit with the musical theme, and flowing waves to resemble sound waves. The three colors, red, yellow, and purple were used to separate the three units in the program. I used red and yellow because of the prominence of the colors in flags for many countries, and purple because in color psychology purple is often used to signify music and creativity.
In addition to the logo, I made collages of the musicians featured in the Black American Music program. I also updated the Google site used to present the information in classrooms and the informational page on the NHSO website with the logo and colors.
